When Vijay Palaparty had visited my show titled Maya- Transitory Experiences at Freight Gallery, Washington DC, he said told me about the dance that he is planning on with the same theme. During our discussions, he told me that this performance was going to happen in Chennai, India and he would like to include my installation as part of his performance, and we decided one the installation he had seen during show. It was wonderful have my displayed in the place where I grew up and many thanks to him for doing so.
Vijay Palaparty- "Maya a transdisciplinary performance exploring identity, ancestry, and the feminine creative force, shaped through Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Carnatic music, and visual installation. Emerging from my own journey of inquiry, the work unfolds at the intersection of movement, sound, visual art, and light, offering a space for reflection rather than explanation.
Maya has taken form through close, process-driven collaboration with Ramya Kapadia on music and Shanthi Chandrasekhar on visual art. Together, we have shaped an immersive, experience rooted in shared listening and dialogue, one that invites presence and awareness.
Inspired by the musical lineage of master composer Madurai N. Krishnan and the choreographic legacies of visionary and seminal dance artists Sudharani Raghupathy and K. Uma Rama Rao, the work engages art as a living portal into ancestry, memory, devotion, and resistance."
Joins us on Jan 25th, to witness, to listen, and simply to be present with the work, in whatever way it meets you.
